Protection of the professional activity of journalists and freedom of speech in Ukraine: combating impunity

On September 9-10, 2021, a training course “Protection of professional activity of journalists and freedom of speech in Ukraine: combating impunity” was held, which included the following trainings: “International standards for protection of professional activity of journalists”, “Criminal offenses against journalists: procedural guidance and support public prosecution.” The event was supported by the project “The European Union and the Council of Europe are working together to support media freedom in Ukraine.”

Welcoming remarks before the training course were made by:

Stan Nyorlov – Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine;

Oleh Pelepiuk – Representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the of Ukraine;

Ismail Khan – Representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine;

Dmytro Lotiuk – Head of the Analytical Training Department of Prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Training Center of Ukraine.

The task of the training course was to improve the prosecutor’s skills in international standards for the protection of journalists’ professional activities.

The trainers of the course were:

Oleksii Boniuk – Head of the Department of Criminal Law Policy and Investment Protection of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine;

Liudmyla Opryshko – expert of the Council of Europe, lawyer, media lawyer of the NGO “Human Rights Platform”;

Maryna Antoniuk – Council of Europe expert;

Kateryna Diachuk – lawyer of the Institute of Mass Information;

Anna Babinets – Investigative Journalist, Head of the Independent Investigation Agency Slidstvo.Info, Regional Editor of the Corruption and Organized Crime Investigation Project (OCCRP);

Oleksandra Zhyla – Prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine;

Serhiia Yakovenko – lawyer.

Moderators of the event: Inna Berdnik Lesia Yevropina – consultants of the analytical department of training of prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Training Center of Ukraine and Igor Pylypenko – expert of the analytical department of training of prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Training Center of Ukraine.
