On October 19-21, 2021, the Prosecutor’s Training Center of Ukraine hosted a training course “Prosecutor’s Supervision of Observance of Laws in Places of Detention”, which will include the following trainings:

“Priorities for prosecutorial oversight of compliance with the law in places of detention and the prospects of its transformation “;

“Practice and problematic issues of ensuring the rights of prisoners convicted in places of detention, current national and international standards of treatment of prisoners”;

“The activities of the prosecutor in compliance with the law in the field of execution of sentences not related to detention, and in court proceedings on the execution of the sentence.”

Trainers of the training course:

Oleksandr Fedoruk – Deputy Head of the Department for Supervision of Observance of Laws in Places of Imprisonment and Probation Bodies of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine;

Viacheslav Svirets – executive director of the expert center for human rights;

Oleksandr Mykhaliuk – Head of the Department for Supervision of Observance of Laws in Places of Pre-Trial Detention and Application of Measures of Influence for Administrative Offenses of the Department for Supervision of Observance of Laws in Places of Imprisonment and Probation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine;

Vitalii Konstantynov – Head of the Department for Supervision of Observance of Laws in the Execution of Criminal Punishments and Probation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine;

Veronika Plotnikova – Head of the Department for the Organization of Execution of ECtHR Decisions, Analytical and Documentary Support of the Department for Combating Human Rights Violations in the Law Enforcement and Penitentiary Areas of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine;

Iryna Yakovets – Doctor of Law, Senior Researcher, General Manager of projects and programs of non-profit organization “FREE ZONE”.

Prosecutors have increased their competencies and skills in overseeing law enforcement in places of detention.
